Getting to the match

One of my early recollections of getting to the match was the” Football Specials” with excited fans jumping off and going to the turnstiles but of course the rise in car ownership killed all that.
As time has gone by, with the sheer volume of traffic, plus most cars only carrying one or two, limited parking at Home Park or space available in the nearby streets has made the travel to the stadium a nightmare.
For some years the Supporters Club tried to get the ”Specials” back on the road but was told it would be far too expensive.     When Argyle through Tony Campbell introduced the “Free buses” the Supporters Club was delighted as were many fans.
Unfortunately, the term “Free buses” was not very accurate because it is an expensive operation which Argyle hoped would see attendances raised.   In reality it made little difference to the gates. As Argyle’s debts rose the cost became unsustainable and over the Christmas/New Year period the service had to be suspended.
The Supporters Club was devastated and stepped in with an offer to subsidise the Notts County and Yeovil games with Argyle offering to try to help with the cost.
The Supporters Club has appealed for donations to keep the bus service going and bucket collections will be held at the Oldham game and subsequent home games but frankly unless the receipts work out at least £2 per passenger for the return journey, then very reluctantly, the service will have to cease.
We need at least £2 per passenger plus more members of the Supporters Club, membership application forms will be available on the buses, from existing members and at Home Park. Membership costs just £7 per season.

The Supporters Club already runs the coaches to away games and they paid for the band at the Exeter match.
All in line with their motto “To help not hinder”.
